Magic: Black or White

In his book “The Science of Getting Rich”, Wallace Wattles talks about use of will to achieve goals. He says, “It is wrong to apply your will to other men and women, in order to get them to do what you wish done”. That’s what I call black magic. People with good intentions often interfere with those they love by focusing on what they want for others, rather than what is best for everyone involved. I agree with Mr. Wattles when he says using mental power to coerce people is the same thing as using physical force.

“People must be taught to become rich by creation, not by competition. Every man who becomes rich by competition throws down behind him the ladder by which he rises, and keeps others down; but every man who gets rich by creation opens a way for thousands to follow him, and inspires them to do so.”

The method of getting rich requires releasing any thoughts of coercion to acquire wealth. There is no negotiation with “God”, begging or pleading required. The formless stuff of the universe is waiting to act upon our creative thoughts. The only will required is in directing thoughts.

Every thought makes an impression on the formless stuff of the universe. Every thought is a step. The direction of each step is determined by the focus of the thought. Thoughts about lack, limitation and injustice are prayers for more of the same. Conversely, every thought of hope, fulfillment of dreams and achievement of desire is movement towards the goal.

To summarize the first 10 chapters, Wallace says “There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and in which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe. A thought, in this substance, Produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. Man can form things in his thought, and, by impressing his thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks about to be created. In order to do this, man must pass from the competitive to the creative mind; he must form a clear mental picture of the things he wants, and hold this picture in his thoughts with the fixed PURPOSE to get what he wants, and the unwavering FAITH that he does get what he wants, closing his mind against all that may tent to shake his purpose, dim his vision, or quench his faith”.

Thoughts become feelings. Feelings become words. Words become actions. Actions get results . . . always. They may not always be the results we want. They are always the results we’ve earned. That’s tough to swallow when things aren’t going my way. It is so much easier to complain about the injustice of the system and think about the elaborate conspiracy theories of a shadow government, designed to enslave humanity than it is to move forward in spite of it all. That’s the most important time ever to reshape daily thought.
